The place to record your families historical ancestry.

Are you a Fincher or a Fincher descendant, if so you are welcome to join for free and add content to our Fincher family tree website.

It is necessary for you to first register yourself and login into your particular families surname site.

Once you have done this, then you can add your valuable information for use by the rest of your Fincher family to form a more complete history relating to the Fincher family ancestral past.

One person researching a family tree is considerably less efficient in tracing the family history over the decades, than many family members working together, plus in this way by using a website, it enables other Fincher family members to find and communicate with otherwise unknown or lost family branches.

How Early Coats Of Arms Were Granted

Since the early 13th century, Coats of Arms and Heraldry have been a source of great fascination as well as a subject of true historical importance.

How the term "Coat of Arms" evolved makes an interesting story. Because wars were almost a continual occurrence during he middle ages, more and more armor was added to a knights battle uniform until the medieval warrior was finally protected from head to toe.

The metal suit of armor always included a helmet to protect the head, thus it was virtually impossible to tell one knight from another. In order to prevent any errors in the battlefield, such as friends injuring each other, a means of identification was required.

The solution came to knights to paint colored patterns on their battle shields. It was these patterns that were eventually woven into cloth surcoats which were worn over the suit of armor.

This colorful identification was worn and displayed with great pride. Finally records were kept and copyright registered for the different designs. The word Heraldry associated with Coat of Arms is due to the role of the herald in recording these blazons (Coat of Arms).
